The labels below are used throughout the Focus Paper price book.

 

SUSTAINABLE FORESTS

These papers are derived from resources which are managed to ensure their renewability, and preserve natural eco-systems for generations to come.

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)

Is an independent international not-for-profit organisation, founded in 1993 to support environmentally, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world's forests.

Programme for the Endorsement Forest Certification (PEFC)

Provides a framework for the development of and international recognition of national forest certification schemes that have been developed locally.

 

Chain of Custody (COC)

Accreditation applied to final paper products which evaluates the entire paper making process from forestry through to manufacture. The channel through which products are distributed from their origin in the forest to their end-use.

 

BLEACHING PROCESS

Pulp must be bleached to achieve the high white tone in finished paper products.

Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF)

A Common definition for pulp bleached without using elemental chlorine. The presence of elemental chlorine is difficult to filter and is potentially harmful to the environment.

Processed Chlorine Free (PCF)

PCF uses oxygen-based compounds instead of chlorine-based compounds in the bleaching process.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

External certification for paper mills and continual monitoring of key environmental indicators.

ISO14001

External certification for paper mills and continual monitoring of key environmental indicators.

 

Eco-Mark & KOECO

Asian based extensions of the ISO14001 standards.

 

Eco-Management & Audit Systems

European Unions extension of the ISO14001 standards with unique requirements pertaining to employee involvement and communication with stakeholders.

 

Integrated Pollution Prevention & Control (IPPC)

IPPC seeks to prevent or minimise air, water and soil pollution by emissions from industrial installations in the community.

RECYCLED

Paper contains a recycled content. Paper labelled recycled by Focus Paper contain a majority of Post Consumer Waste content.

 

pH LEVELS

pH levels in paper products affect the longevity of the paper product, before it begins to discolour, disintegrate and lose printed image.

ISO 9706

International standard for paper permanence. Measures pH levels as well as tear resistance and content.

pH Neutral and Acid Free

Ensures greater permanence for archival purposes. Also important in packaging, wrapping will not react with contents.

Focus Paper PEFC (Chain of Custody) Number has been updated to SGS-PEFC/COC-0857.
